FAQ.
Where is located Puerto Pirámides? How do I get to the village?
Puerto Pirámides is the only village within Peninsula Valdes, and is the only natural port allowed for whale watching trips by boat to see the Southern Right Whale.
Is located 180 km from Trelew, and 100 km from Puerto Madryn.
You can get to Puerto Pirámides by your own car, by a rented one, by a private transfer or a travel agency one, or by bus. The company “Mar y Valle” is the one that come to the village and which schedule is:
From Puerto Madryn Bus Station to Puerto Pirámides
· EVERY DAY: departure time 09.45 hs
· MON, WED and FRI: departure times 6.30hs, 9.45hs and 16.00hs
From Puerto Pirámides to Puerto Madryn Bus Station:
· EVERY DAY: departure time: 18 : 00 hs
· MON, WED, and FRI: 08.15hs – 11.45 hs – 18hs.
How big is the village? Which services can be found?
The village has a population of a little more than 400 people, and to give you an idea of how big is it, it’s enough to know that you can walk around the whole town in half an hour. That means than you can easily move around without a vehicle. Puerto Pirámides, is inside the Peninsula Valdes, the only place where you can get services as: gas station; small hospital, ATM, groceries stores; places to make phone calls and internet access, and tourist services (tourist information office, accommodation, restaurants; gift shops; dive operators, kayak and whale watching)
Puerto Pirámides is the ideal start point to depart to natural places that Peninsula Valdes has to offer you. From here you will find unbelievable places starting by Puerto Piramides, Panoramic stops, Playa Pardelas, Caleta Valdes, and much more.
The closest place that you will find as soon as you get into the Peninsula is the Istmo Carlos Ameghino, where is located a kind of museum which provides all the information you need to start the adventure. Near we have the signs that indicate the way to Isla de los Pajaros (bird´s Island), called like that because hundreds of birds make their nest there every year, and some other come for feeding: Gaviotas Cocineras, Biguás, Gaviotines, Flamencos, Pato Vapor, Ostreros Negros y de cuello blanco.
Puerto Pirámides rests over the Golfo Nuevo, from where we can get to Playa “las Cuevas” and even more, you can get to the Loberia (place where you can see sea lions), 6 km walking trough an upside-down way along you will see amazing landscapes.
More than 20 km from the village you will reach the other Gulf; the Golfo San José wich has beaches as Larralde y Villarino. Both places are plenty of local fishermen, is interesting see how they live, and also there are some of them who offers lunch and sells some fresh sea products
Already going into the Peninsula we have a pebbles beach called Punta Pardelas. During whale seasons is possible to see them from the coast, and in summer don´t forget the snorkel…its waters has a great visibility.
Inside the Peninsula Valdes there are 4 places to visit along the coast, from north to south we have Punta Norte, Caleta Valdes, Punta Cantor y Punta Delgada, where beside the gorgeous and no-ending landscapes, depending of the season you will see different animals.
Which activities can we do in town?
All the activities are extremely related with nature, especially with the sea: trekking, diving, snorkeling, kayak, whale watching, boat trips, photography, and an activity that few people appreciate: relaxation and the abstraction from the material world!
.
Do I need a vehicle?
Even we said that Puerto Pirámides can be walked side to side by walking, to go around the Peninsula is recommended to have a car, because there is no public transportation to go there. If you don´t want to come or rent a car the choice is to hire a transfer or join a travel agency tour.
*TIPS FOR YOUR TRIP*:
Bring enough cash with you. Even there is an ATM in the village, it s usually out of service. Also most of the shops and hotels do not accept credit cards.
· Suitable clothes are recommended, in winter temperature is cold and it is usually windy. In summer weather is really warm, but at nights you will always need a jacket.
· Is important to know that all the activities linked with the sea depend on the weather, that´s one of the reasons because we recommend 4 days in Peninsula. For example, it will be not the same experience to have the choice to choose the day to do a whale watching, that do it certain day with a ruff sea cause we “have to” leave. Remember that we are experimenting nature, and fortunately we can not manage it by a remote control.
· Other thing to know when you estimate tour times is that the Peninsula road is made by pebbles, and that is the reason because every way will take you more time than trough a pavement road.
How many days are recommended to spend in the area?
From our point of view, as travelers, nature lovers and knowing the Peninsula, the time we suggest to have a full experience is about 3 nights/4days. Are requirements to know or be prepared to learn how to enjoy nature; tranquility, know how to live without advertising and commercial stimuli, TV, the tuxedo and the high heels
DEL NOMADE SUGGEST YOU
In our opinion is good to spend 4 days and 3 nights to get a
deeply knowdedge *of the area*. Here as a proposal you have different activities combination and duration. Prices are orientative.

Guest book
My wife and I arrived in Trelew around 9pm and rented a car to Puerto Piramides. The drive was around 3 hours (we are slow drivers). Laura greeted us even though it was late at night when we arrived. The drive was suprisingly easy. When we woke up in the morning we were greeted with a delicious breakfast with homemade breads and yogurt. Both Laura and Lala made us feel at home and helped us plan each day. The hotel is modern, clean and ecofriendly. There is a large seating room upstairs and downstairs with books/maps on the area. Tea, coffee and snacks were always available. We especially liked the patagonian red berry cookies. The hotel had more of a bed and breakfast type feel than a typical hotel. We were greeted every time we came in and out. We felt like we were family. The town itself is small and was perfect for us. It is only a couple minute walk into town and felt very safe walking around. We recommend staying in Puerto Piramides as opposed to staying further out. We were fortunate and timed the Southern Right Whales-mom and calves. We could hear the whales at night from the hotel! Laura and Lala helped us plan whale trips and help plan our itineraries around the peninsula. We went on 2 whale watching trips, the sunset one was absoutely spectular with only 6 people on the boat. We were sad to leave and would happily go back. This was the nicest hotel of our trip and and highly recommend it. A very relaxing place!
This eco hotel was the perfect starting-out point for any and all activities in Puerto Piramides. The girls at the front desk, Lala and Laura, helped us arrange so many activities, advised us about weather-contingent plans, gave us options, and just really made our stay amazing. The hotel is situated right on the main strip, close to everything in town. The rooms are comfortable and quiet - basically we lacked for nothing. Highly recommend this place!!
Great eco hotel without missing any comfort!
Stylish rooms with perfect mix of colours and furniture.
Beautiful and well equiped bathroom.
Very comfortable beds! Very quiet during night time!
Private terrace.
Friendly staff!
Delicious Breakfast!
Great location! Just a few minutes walk to restaurants, shops and the sea/beach!
Puerto Piramides is a nice litte town with a special atmosphere.
Loved all the small shops and coloured houses. Very friendly people!.
Pure relaxation and great holiday feeling far away from everydays business!
Highly recommendable!
During our few months stay in Argentina, we have noticed that customer service is not a forte of many of the establishments we have visited. Hosteria del Nomade proves that theory wrong! The young girls that run the hotel (and the self catering apartment that we stayed in) are fabulous. They have made every effort to make sure we have had an enjoyable experience. They loaned us beach towels, there is a book exchange/library in the lobby, daily maid service, fresh pastries brought to our room for breakfast… and wifi throughout (although unreliable). They are friendly and knowledgeable of the area. They were negotiable with the rent as there is construction next door (which hasn’t been a problem at all). We were also granted a late check out because our bus does not leave until this evening. Very accommodating.
My only negative comment would be that the wide angle photos of the apartment on the website are deceiving. The apartment is quite small and the kitchen is only big enough for one person to stand in. It also gets sun all day and becomes unbelievably hot by late afternoon.
That being said, the bed, sheets and pillows have been the most comfortable and best we’ve seen in Argentina. Everything is very clean and the hotel is welcoming. I would recommend staying here, although if I were to return, we would probably get a room in the hotel rather than pay extra for the apartment with kitchen, as it really was just a small fridge and hot plate.
Also convenient, there is a market right across the street that accepts credit cards.
First of all, if you are travelling to Argentina for vacation, a "definitely must see" place is "Peninsula Valdés". If you are travelling to Peninsula Valdés, the place you should seek for accommodation should be Puerto Piramides, since you are just in the of the park and next to the whales...
Hotel del Nomade is a great place to stay in Puerto Piramides. Rooms are big and very comfortable. Details are taken care of. Beyond everything the staff is just fantastic. They do everything for you to enjoy Puerto Piramides, even before your arrival. During your stay in Puerto Piramides they help you with everything.
If you are going to Argentina, to Peninsula Valdés, stay here, don't look for anything else. You will not regret...
We had a great stay in Puerto Piramides. If you want to visit Pensinsula Valdes you should stay here and book a room at Del Nomade! The place is very relaxing, in the dunes and nearby the beach. The staff Lala and Laura are very kind and will help you with anything. They make their own wonderfull cookies and cakes for breakfast, offcourse with fresh orange juice.
When we arrived at Del Nomade we were very early and hungry. Laura made a free breakfast for us and the room was available. That was a great start. Laura recommended the sun set tour to see the wales and we went for it. It was amazing, we've seen a dozen wales with their baby. The next three days we've explored the island, it is breathtaking. We have seen many wildlife.
About the room, it's convinient without any luxury. We've stayed in room 1 that has a outside place. No tv, but you won't need it because nature makes sleepy.
Our stay was absolutely great. In the future we hope to return to this special place.
(Unesco World Heritage Site)
